February Black History Month
Hidden away in the marshes of St. Augustine is one of the most important sites in American history: Fort Mose (pronounced Moh-Say), the first free community of ex-slaves, founded in 1738. Don't miss this showing, Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2:00pm.
Local Newspaper to close down
The North Florida Herald, founded in 1952, and once known as the High Springs Herald, covers Florida's crescent communities: Alachua, Newberry, High Springs, Fort White, Gilchrist County and Jonesville. The Herald not only reports local events, birthday parties, block parties, anniversaries, and local elections but also advertisements, sales and specials for businesses. This will be a great loss for our community.

George Washington still owes 220 years' worth of late fees on two books he borrowed, but never returned. But our Library District does not charge fines. However, if your account is delinquent with over $50 worth of material overdue for more than 60 days, your account will be referred to an outside agency for "materials recovery" and a $10 fee will appear on your library account. The agency will first send a letter asking for the return of the items, and follow up with telephone calls. To clear your account, you will need to return the items and pay the $10 fee. Details about materials recovery and answers to your other questions are in our FAQ boxes.
