Fred Cone Park, located at 2841 E. University Ave. in east Gainesville, now boasts an eight-lane, competition quality, 440-meter track with a high performance rubberized surface. The park has been updated to include other amenities such as an interior field for pole vault, shot put, high jump and long jump events, as well as two basketball courts, new bathrooms, bleachers, and extra parking spaces. The track is open to the public and everyone is welcome. The City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation, and Cultrual Affairs Department will holda ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new track and field facility at Fred Cone Park on March 29, 2012 from 10:00 - 11:00 am.
