Have you read Danny and the Dinosaur? It's a great story about a boy who has an adventure with a dinosaur and it has been read by children for many years.
Syd Hoff, who was the author and illustrator of this book and many books for children, would have turned 101 this year if he were still alive. He lived a good, long life and died at age 92. He grew up in New York and was well known for his comics and cartoons which appeared in magazines around the world including the New Yorker. He also lived in Florida for many years.
Currently, the exhibit of "The Life and Works of Cartoonist Syd Hoff" is on display at the Headquarters Library in the Youth Services Department from March 4 through April 12. The exhibit was created by curator and freelance writer Dina Weinstein.
This exhibit ties in with the 10th Annual Conference on Comics at UF the weekend of March 15-17. Curator Dina Weinstein will participate on the panel: "Gender and Reworking Cultural Traditions" at the conference on Saturday, March 16 at 11:00 AM. This exhibit also ties into our celebration of International Children's Book Day on April 2.
