Comics artist and graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang is coming on January 26
The Library District Headquarters is hosting an evening with Gene Luen Yang, a celebrated author, to discuss "How to Make Comics." Yang will go through the creative process step-by-step, from idea to the writing to the art to publication. There will also be an optional comics-related exercise for the audience.
Gene Luen Yang began drawing comic books in the fifth grade. In 1997, he received a Xeric Grant for Gordon Yamamoto and the King of the Geeks, his first comics work. He has since written and drawn a number of titles, including Duncan’s Kingdom, The Rosary Comic Book, Prime Baby and Animal Crackers.
American Born Chinese, his first graphic novel from First Second, was a National Book Award finalist, as well as the winner of the Printz Award for young adult literature, and an Eisner Award. He also won an Eisner for The Eternal Smile, a collaboration with Derek Kirk Kim.
Yang’s newest graphic novel Level Up, illustrated by Thien Phan, was named a New York Times Notable Book for 2011.
This event, presented by the Friends of the Library, is free and open to the public.
