Book cover of The Naked OlympicsBesides a Royal Diamond Jubilee and the 200th Birthday of Charles Dickens, the UK will be hosting the 2012 Summer Olympic Games from July 27-August 12, and the Book Cover of Inside the OlympicsParalympics from August 29-September 9.

BBC Sport has an Olympics page where you can follow the run-up to the games, plus read human interest stories about the athletes. You will be able to follow many of the events in real time there as well.

Where did the Olympic Games come from, anyway?
To begin with, they were played naked, but the politics were still there as The Naked Olympics by Tony Perrottet will tell you.
If you want to look at some glorious pictures, try The Olympic Games by DK Publishing.
And there are still politics and scandals in and around the games, even if everyone is fully clothed, as Inside the Olympics by Richard Pound will tell you.

Eventually, of course, it all boils down to the athletes when all their hard work and training are put to the final test with much of the world watching.
