Walk into history...

The Matheson Museum is full of local history treasures and only a minute's walk from our downtown library on University Avenue.  This August, the Matheson Museum is having a giant book sale Saturday, August 11; a 2nd Annual Civil War Symposium Friday, August 17 at 6 pm; and a Mini-Reenactment August 18 at 10 am.  The museum will also have a "War Comes to Gainesville: The Civil War Battle of August 17, 1864" exhibit.

Alachua County Library District also has reference resources on Florida and local history.  If you'd like to check out materials from the library on these subjects or the Civil War, check us out online or stop by our downtown library.

You can view our Heritage Quest database online or stop by one of our libraries to access Ancestry Library Edition.  You may also want to browse our Heritage Collection or view our one of a kind collection of the Gainesville Sun on microfilm dating to the late 1800's.
