July 6, 2018

Cheer for your favorite Battle of the Books teen team at Alachua County Library District’s 9th annual Battle of the Books competition at Headquarters Library on Saturday, July 28, at 1 p.m. This annual competition features teams of teens from different branch libraries competing for the 2018 championship and guest speaker Christina Moore, narrator of the audiobook The Girl who Drank the Moon. Moore has recorded more than 400 audiobooks and received 14 Earphone awards.

During the summer teams from participating branches meet regularly to discuss the three selected books used in the challenge. The selected books this year are When by Victoria Laurie, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill. This final competition determines the winning team based on its knowledge of the books. Headquarters and Newberry branches holds the 2017 title.

This free event is open to the public and will be in Meeting Room A at Headquarters Library, 401 E. University Avenue. All participating teens will receive a copy of each of this year’s featured books courtesy of the Friends of the Library.
