The Alachua County Library District Governing Board met in regular session.

 

PRESENT:             Chair Lee Pinkoson, presiding, Vice-Chair Susan Bottcher, Governors Charles S. Chestnut IV, Yvonne Hinson-Rawls, Robert “Hutch” Hutchinson, and Leanetta McNealy, Ph. D.

ALSO PRESENT:   Library Director Shaney T. Livingston, Assistant County Attorney William Harlan, Assistant Clerk/Finance Director Todd Hutchison, Deputy Clerk Bob Decker

 

The meeting was not televised.

Chair Pinkoson opened the meeting at 11:04 A.M.

 

I.       APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA

          Governor Chestnut moved approval of the Consent Agenda.  The motion carried 6-0.

          (The items on the Consent Agenda are of a routine nature.  The motion to adopt the Consent Agenda approved all items and recommended actions on the Consent Agenda.)

A.       Donation of Equipment – Florida Department of Education Division of Blind Services

          Staff Recommended Action: Accept the donation of the equipment valued at $4,340.00.

B.       Approval of Purchase Order and Change Order – Shaw Industries ($55,410.02)

          Staff Recommended Action: Approve the issuance of Purchase Order #610211 and Change Order to Shaw Industries in the amount of $55,410.02.  A copy, if applicable, is to be included in the Board’s minutes.

 

II.     APPROVAL OF THE REGULAR AGENDA

          Governor Bottcher moved approval of the Regular Agenda.  The motion carried 6-0.

 

III.    SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS

A.       Youth Services

          Staff Recommended Action: Hear the presentation.

          Library Director Shaney Livingston and Youth Services Manager Be Astengo presented the above item.

VII.   INFORMATIONAL ITEMS THAT REQUIRE NO ACTION

A.       Monthly Statistical Report Summaries January 2013

Staff Recommended Action: No action required – informational purposes only.

          Library Director Shaney Livingston presented the above item.

B.       Florida Library Association Day – March 12, 2013

Staff Recommended Action: No action required – informational purposes only.

          Library Director Shaney Livingston presented the above item.

          Library Director Livingston stated that a bill is before the Legislature that would require Special Assessment Districts to administratively consolidate with local municipalities or counties.  She further stated that staff is diligently following the course of this bill.

          Governor Hutchinson moved:

1.       To authorize any Governing Board member to speak with the Alachua County legislative delegation to indicate the Board’s desire to be exempt from the proposed bill.

2.       To authorize the Library Director to provide a memorandum listing how the Library District has already consolidated with County administrative services.

          Chair Pinkoson recognized Library Director Shaney Livingston and Assistant County Attorney William Harlan who presented comments to the Board.

          The motion carried 6-0.

C.       Library District Press Releases and Publicity

Staff Recommended Action: No action required – informational purposes only.

          Library Director Shaney Livingston presented the above item.

          Library Director Livingston invited everyone present to the official groundbreaking ceremony for the Cone Park Branch Library to be held on March 21, 2013 at 10 A.M.

 

VIII.  GOVERNING BOARD COMMENT

          Chair Pinkoson thanked Youth Services Director Be Astengo and Library Director Shaney Livingston for their presentation and for their hard work.

 

IX.     CITIZEN COMMENT

          There were no citizens present who wished to provide comments to the Governing Board.

 

X.      ADJOURNMENT

          There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 11:46 A.M.
