Congratulations to Librarian Linda Dean for winning the Northeast Florida Library Information Network Member of the Year Award that honors employees who enhances the culture and climate of their library and the community that it serves.
Here are just a few of the many accomplishments that resulted in Linda's award:
- Her strong dedication to literacy and children as shown by the productive relationships that she has built with local schools and preschools.
- The innovative Summer STEAM Power teen program funded through a Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant that provided tweens and teens with the opportunity to increase their digital literacy skills using a 3D printer, robotics, electrical circuits, computer coding and more.
- Her creative programming techniques for children such as setting up stations so children can rotate through different activities related to a single theme. Her Superhero Camp had various stations where children could train on superhero feats. She also began Make It, Take Crafts as an activity for afterschool children.
- Her steadfast determination to find therapy dogs for the Read to a Dog programs that encourage children to improve their reading skills.
Linda’s dedication to libraries, enthusiasm in encouraging children to read, and willingness to take on new challenges – all infused with her high energy and creative problem solving skills – results in positive and effective library service to our community.
The Alachua County Library District also won two other NEFLIN awards. The Innovation of the Year Award for Sensory Storytime and the Golden Apple Continuing Education Award for the District's commitment to staff training.
If you are in Alachua, stop by to congratulate Linda and let her know how much her hard work and dedication are appreciated.
