Sweet construction activities at the library

Ready to build your dream house?  Alachua, High Springs, Library Partnership and Newberry branch libraries are all presenting Gingerbread house programs in December. Tower Road branch will also have a Gingerbread man vs Ninjabread man program in December as well.


You won’t need to bring an army of gingerbread men or ninjas to help you build your one-of-a-kind creation.  All construction materials will be provided.  Gingerbread engineers may get messy so be sure to wear appropriate clothes (hardhats not necessary). 


All houses and gingerbread people will go home with their builders to enjoy for a long (or short) time to come.

Blueprints for each program are as follows:

Alachua Branch
On Sunday, December 18, meeting rooms A and B will be the construction site of the Alachua branch library’s annual Gingerbread House Creations workshop from 2 to 5 p.m.

Children of all ages are invited to join in this family fun event and raise the roof on their very own holiday gingerbread house. 

Building supplies for these cozy cottages were provided by the Alachua Friends of the Library, Publix Supermarkets, and the Walmart Distribution Center of Alachua.

High Springs Branch
At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 all teen gingerbread engineers are invited to participate in the High Springs Branch annual Gingerbread Competition.  ot only will the architect of the most original structure receive a lot of ooohs and ahhhhs but a prize as well.

Materials for the superstructures were provided by the High Springs Friends of the Library. 

Newberry Branch
Construction for the Newberry branch annual Gingerbread House Craft program will be on Thursday, December 8.  Assembly will begin at 2 p.m. with a prize going to the best gingerbread house fabrication.

Gingerbread house construction workers of all ages are welcome at this building site.

Tower Road Branch
Need someone to live in a Gingerbread house you’ve already constructed this season?  At Tower Road branch construction workers of all ages can choose a Gingerbread or a Ninjabread shaped cookie and use icing and sprinkles to create a masterpiece. Which cookie will the most popular? Last year the traditional Gingerbread shape was more popular than the ninjas. Will the ninjas fight back this year?  Find out on December 13 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. 

Library Partnership Branch
Show off your architectural skills by constructing the supreme gingerbread house at Library Partnership's Gingerbread House Challenge. All building materials will be provided and all ages are welcome Decemer 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
