Alachua County Library District is offering many free programs to keep all ages engaged and learning all summer including FOODIEspace, Professor DoDad’s Lab, MAKERspace, Wizzbangz Bus, TECHspace, Mask Dance with Surapsari, VIDEOspace, Capoeira of Gainesville and many more. This Summer at the Library kids, teens, adults and seniors are invited to participate, connect and discover with their library and community.
Alachua County Library District’s 2017 Author Series presents Nathan Hill on Sunday, June 4, 2 p.m. at Headquarters Library, 401 E. University Avenue. New literary talent Nathan Hill also kicks off the Summer at the Library program. He will talk about his debut novel and sign books afterward.
In April, Alachua County Library District and Partnership for Strong Families collaborated with community partners to assist individuals with criminal backgrounds and other barriers to re-enter the workforce, enroll in educational programs and explore entrepreneurship opportunities. The Re-Entry Conference at Library Partnership April 10-13, helped individuals prepare for the Re-Entry Job and Resource Fair at Headquarters Library on April 24.
The Alachua County Library District will be closed all day on Monday, May 29, 2017, for the Memorial Day holiday. All branches will be closed and the two bookmobiles will not make their normally scheduled stops. All book drops and online services including eBook checkouts at www.aclib.us will be available. All 12 library locations and both bookmobiles in Alachua County will resume their regular schedules on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.
Alachua County Library District’s 2017 Author Series presents Bronwen Dickey on Sunday, May 21, 2 p.m. at Headquarters Library, 401 E. University Avenue. In Dickey’s new book, Pit Bull: The Battle over an American Icon, she traces the history of the pit bull's relationship with humans, from how the breed was once very popular with the likes of Helen Keller, earned presidential recognition for their heroic efforts in the Civil War, to how the breed became demonized.
