The 6th Annual Summer Art Show for adults will be held Sunday, August 4, 2019 at the Headquarters Library. A reception for artists and the public will be held from 2:30-3 p.m. followed by an art discussion with artist Ameena Khan at 3 p.m.
Khan is a mixed media artist living and working in the Tampa area. Born in 1980 in Gainesville, Ameena has been exhibiting her paintings in galleries and festivals since 2010. Khan’s visually narrative paintings tell the stories of Muslim women living in America.
"I believe that art can transcend the boundaries of culture, language, and beliefs to touch hearts and transform communities," Khan said. "The very best art challenges our most deeply held convictions and gives us the opportunity to grow. This principle is the driving force for my work.”
The reception/demonstration will take place in the Teen Room on the library's third floor.
Artists are invited to submit works for the show. Submissions will be collected from June 1 to July 30 and will be on display from August 4-30. Exhibits may include 3D artwork. Guidelines, application and waiver forms will be available starting June 1 at all 12 library locations and below. You may submit your art at any library branch.
