Author Series: Laura Lippman will speak at Headquarters Library

SunburnLaura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan series is one of the most popular and acclaimed crime series as are her stand-alone novels.  She'll be at Headquarters Saturday, March 3 at 2:30pm.  She was a reporter for twenty years, including twelve years at The (Baltimore) Sun.   Her work has been awarded the Edgar ®, the Anthony, the Agatha, the Shamus, the Nero Wolfe, Gumshoe and Barry awards.  Her latest novel, Sunburn, will be out February 20.

She’s married to fellow writer David Simon (known for his TV work on Homicide, The Wire and The Deuce).  They are both known for their stories based on Baltimore.  Becoming a first time mom at age 51, she also had her character Tess go through a difficult pregnancy in her novella The Girl in the Green Raincoat having Tess solve two murders, thwart an attempt on her life and go into premature labor.  To write a book a year, Lippman says, you simply focus on 1000 words a day.

Ms. Lippman attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Her other newspaper jobs included the Waco Tribune-Herald and the San Antonio Light.  She is the daughter of the late Theo Lippman Jr., a Sun editorial writer and Madeline Mabry Lippman, a former Baltimore City school librarian.
