Do you love to read Young Adult books?
We are seeking an adult volunteer from the community to join our panel of judges for the 2019 Teen Battle of the Books.
The Battle of the Books is our annual summer event for teens to read, meet up, and have fun. Throughout the spring, teens will vote online or at their local library branch for which books they would like to read. Once votes are tallied, the top three books will be ordered for participants (funded by a generous donation by our Friends of the Library!) Starting in June, teens will join teams at their local library branch. The teams will meet regularly with their coach, who will guide them and prepare them for the competition. The Battle of the Books event will be held on Saturday, July 27th, 2019 in Meeting Room A at the Headquarters Library from 1-4 p.m. The competition will be three rounds of trivia questions that the judges have created.
So, where do you fit in?
This year, we would like to invite a member of the community to join our three-person judge's panel. The other two members will be from the library. Judges will read all three books (we'll provide them), but will be responsible for creating questions for only one of the books. On the day of the event (July 27, 2019), judges will need to be at the library from 12:30-4 p.m. to preside over the competition. They will also need to be available for one two-hour meeting during business hours in late June or early July (we are flexible on the date.) In this meeting, judges will discuss and finalize the questions for the Battle of the Books and be briefed on the rules and structure of the event. We also require that prospective judges not be related to anyone participating in the Battle of the Books or have any bias for or against any team.
Does this sound like fun?
If you are interested in volunteering to be a judge (and can meet the above requirements), please tell us a little bit about yourself by filling out our online form.
