Gainesville, Fla. – The Alachua County Library District invites the community to celebrate libraries of all kinds during National Library Week April 4-10, 2021.

The Library District encourages all community members to explore and access library services and programs. The Alachua County Library District offers browsing and computer appointments daily and a wide array of online resources, including a robust digital collection, genealogy research tools, databases, and schoolwork aides available 24/7.

“Libraries are the heart of their communities. During National Library Week, we celebrate all the ways the Alachua County Library District builds a better community by creating opportunities for patrons to participate, connect, and discover,” said Library Director Shaney T. Livingston.

This National Library Week, the public can show appreciation and support for libraries by visiting www.aclib.us/libraryweek, following us on social media @alachualibrary, and using the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek. Community members can share why they love libraries, give a shoutout to their favorite library workers, and even share favorite library snapshots on our National Library Week website.

National Library Week is a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme for this year’s National Library Week is “Welcome to Your Library,” which promotes the idea that libraries extend far beyond the four walls of a building and that everyone is welcome to use their services. Whether people visit virtually or in person, libraries are accessible and inclusive places that foster a sense of belonging and community through learning, discovery, and exploration.

During these challenging times, libraries of all types have gone above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding their resources and continuing to meet the needs of their patrons. The Alachua County Library District supports the community with in-person and virtual services including computer access, mobile hotspots for checkout, and reference services.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April.
