November is National Picture Book Month and the Cone Park Branch will present the documentary I Know A Man...Ashley Bryan on November 4th at 5:30 pm.  Ashley Bryan gave the world an invaluable wealth of picture books, most often detailing the African American experience.  He was a nominee for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2006 and he won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for his contribution to American children's literature in 2009.

Bryan's book, Freedom Over Me, received a Newbery Honor Medal, and Beat the Story Drum, Pum-Pum and Let it Shine: Three Favorite Spirituals were both honored with the Coretta Scott King Award.

In addition to a viewing of the documentary and a display of Mr. Bryan's works, patrons will have an opportunity to check out items from our collection.

At 4:00 that same day, children will have an opportunity to create their own picture books in a program designed just for them.
