Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered before her eyes. On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia's family, her kingdom, and even her name. From then on she was the Ash Princess - a title of shame to bear in her new life as a prisoner in her own home. She has lived as the Ash Princess for ten long years. Why does she stay? Because she knows that one day she will get the chance to take back her kingdom and avenge her mother.
This is such a good and captivating story about perserverance and overcoming the evil of the world. The overall story of a kingdom capture isn't so new, but the details make this a rare tale. Laura Sebastian writes in such a beautiful way that even when she is describing something evil, it has the air of refinement of it. Beware though, it is quite the cliff hanger, so make sure you're ready with the second book in this fast paced trilogy Lady Smoke.
