Hawthorne Area Resources: COVID-19 Update

The library is an important part of services to the Hawthorne community. We offer free Wifi, public bathrooms, copying, printing, faxing to DCF, a public water fountain, a place to cool off as well as library cards to every Florida resident. We are happy to be a place Hawthorne residents can obtain information about the other resources our local community offers. Some of these organizations may charge fees, so please call the number listed for pricing.

Unemployment Applications

  • Hawthorne City Hall: 6875 SE 221st St, Hawthorne, FL 32640
    • Paper unemployment applications are available for pick-up at the City Hall drive-thru in a red and yellow tub. The applications will need to be mailed to: Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, P.O. Box 5350 Tallahassee, FL 32314-5350

  • Hawthorne Branch Library:  352-481-1920 CLOSED
    • The Hawthorne Branch Library is closed, but there is free wifi available that reaches outside the building as long as proper social distancing guidelines are followed.
  • Love's Truck Stop: 352-481-0170
    • There is free wifi available at Love's through McDonald's.
  • The Wrap Shack: 352-481-0850
  • Ashley Oaks (entrance): SR 20 & SE 228 Street from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
    • This wifi is available for free through the Alachua County Public Schools bus wifi program.

Other Assistance:

  • Hawthorne Branch Library:  352-481-1920 CLOSED
    • Free community meeting space, literacy and ESOL tutoring, test proctoring, events for all ages, applying for government assistance, computer help, free public-access computers, free local calling, and free borrowing of library materials to Florida residents with library card.
  • Hawthorne Area Resource Center: 352-450-5421
    • The HARC is a non-profit organization that provides health care referals, a weekly farm share, a food pantry, supportive services for veterans families, and a free weekly dinner.
  • Shell Elementary School: 352-481-1900
    • Shell Elementary frequently updates their Facebook page with information about picking up assignments for student, virtual spirit week, and the Mustang minute. Children aged 0-18 can pick up breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Shell Elementary. You do not have to be a student at Shell Elementary to receive food.
  • Hawthorne Middle High School: 352-481-1900
    • Hawthorne Middle High School also updates their Facebook page with information. HMHS students can pickup breakfast and lunch at Shell Elementary, Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
