Playing With Words: Poetry Fun

2016 Poem about dance by Shell Elementary 5th grade students of Ms Groh

Enjoy a moment inspired by art and words! Guylene will walk us through a couple of poetry exercises to get our creativity flowing! You'll discover fun approaches for composing a poem as a group, with your family, or even by yourself. Challenge each other to write poems for exchange or complete a poem as a group. We'll experiment with wordstorming, use a poetic formula (from which you can deviate to your heart's content) and be inspired by works of art painted by local artist Laurie Scott-Reyes.

Laurie is a multitalented dynamo who served our country, taught zumba locally, paints, writes, gardens and builds! Enjoy viewing Laurie's Portfolio here. She is also the author of two books: Consider the Ravens & Against the Tempest: The Scott-Hurts of Russell County, Alabama both published by Rising Creek Books. To learn more about Laurie check out her Linkedin Profile.

Pictured above is a poem written by Ms. Groh's 2016 Shell Elementary 5th grade class using these techniques with Guylene facilitating the activity.

Here are some of Laurie's paintings you can choose from for your inspiration:
