The Library District will offer Basic Arabic for Adults at Headquarters Library starting January 11. Literacy Coordinator Theresa Sterling has arranged for Yaman Kutria, an experienced teacher who is a native speaker, to conduct Wednesday evening classes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Meeting Room B. Registration is not required. For more information contact Literacy Coordinator Theresa Sterling at firstname.lastname@example.org or 352-334-3929.
Yaman Kutria studied English in her home country, Syria. She started teaching in 2007. Her degrees are in computer engineering and information technology. She taught kindergarten for three years and was a teacher's assistant before that.
She has been practicing English since she arrived in the United States two years ago. She lived in Kentucky before coming to Gainesville and is excited to offer basic Arabic language classes in her new community.
Arabic is the fifth most commonly spoken native language in the world and is the official language in more than 20 countries. It is not often studied in U.S. colleges and Arabic speakers are in demand. The Library District is pleased to expand its diverse lineup of programs and offer a chance to learn the basics in this language.
