Come to a canning class

Canning WWII Poster by Alfred ParkerAfter a brutal Florida winter, many are looking forward to the warm weather to spend more time gardening and simply enjoying the sunshine. Gardening has two major advantages; it provides healthy food and it is a great way of getting exercise. Summer gardens are popular in our area and they produce food galore. Sometimes there is too much food for one family to eat and the neighbors simply refuse to accept any more tomatoes. So what do you do with the extra food? You can it!

The High Springs Branch Library is offering an opportunity to learn home canning or just refresh your memory on how canning is done. A representative from the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), will show us the safe and proper way to can. Please join us for Canning Fruits and Veggies on Tuesday, March 3rd at 6 PM.

For more information check out books from the library or the IFAS website.
