Join Historic Preservationist extraordinaire, Melanie Barr, on Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 in Meeting Room B to learn about local history and Dr. Robb, the first female doctor in Alachua County and quite probably the first female doctor in the North Central Florida region. Melanie Barr has been studying Gainesville history and has been involved with historic preservation for 45 years. Barr will speak about the Robb family and how their house was saved. Dr. Lucretia Robb received her medical school education in Germany when American medical schools would not admit her. She and her husband, Dr. Robert Robb, wrote a book on Homeopathic Medicine in 1882. Their house still stands in downtown Gainesville after it was saved and moved by the Alachua County Medical Society.
This program is possible thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library.
