University of Florida History Professor Steven Noll will present the history of Tacachale from 7-8:30 p.m. May 20 in the Foundation Room at Headquarters Branch.
All questions are welcome at this event for all ages. The event is presented by the Alachua County Genealogical Society.
Tacachale was founded in 1921 as the Florida Farm Colony for the Epileptic and Feeble Minded. It is the oldest and largest community for Floridians with developmental disabilities. Please join us as we learn the history of such a necessary place for those who most need help.
Professor Noll is a master lecturer at the University of Florida, historian, and author. He is also a UF alumni. Professor Noll joined the University of Florida’s Department of History in 1992 and is the author of three books, incluidng Ditch of Dreams: The Cross-Florida Barge Canal and the Struggle for Florida’s Future and Mental Retardation in America: A Historical Reader.
