Will Alachua County picture book lovers pick the REAL winner?

Each year the American Library Association honors books, videos and other outstanding materials for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, the ALA Youth Media Awards (YMAs), include the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz, and Coretta Scott King Book Awards.  These awards guide parents, educators, librarians and others in selecting the best materials for youth.

The 2019 Youth Media Award announcements will take place during the American Library Association’s Midwinter Conference on Monday, January 28, at 8:00am ((PT) at the Washington State Convention Center. Count down to the event!

The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.

From the Caldecott Medal terms and criteria page, “The Caldecott committee should keep in mind that the award is for distinguished illustrations in a picture book and for excellence of pictorial presentation for children. The award is not for didactic intent or for popularity.”  We will keep this in mind as we choose our favorites.  Please join us!
