Many of you have probably seen the Miyazaki anime film, Howl's Moving Castle, and if you haven't, you absolutely should. I like to take a break, periodically, from YA and catch up on some elementary chapter books. I love this movie and didn't realize it was originally based on a book, so I was quite excited when I found a copy readily available. The book did nothing to minimize my appreciation for the film, and was wonderfully different in all the right ways. I found myself missing the quirky interactions between the characters after I finished the story, and went ahead and read another book in the series straight away (a rarity for me). Diana Wynne Jones books are the perfect recommendation for kids who are reading well past their maturity level (or adults who just don't want to deal with a bunch of scary stuff, like me). They are great, cheerful fantasy, with memorable characters and hilarious dialogue.
