STEAM at Hawthorne

What is STEAM? STEAM is an educational philosophy that revolves around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. It is a new take on STEM that incorporates art. The hope is that STEAM-oriented education results in thoughtful learners who aren't afraid to fail and explore. STEAM is all about self-discovery and asking questions.

What does STEAM look like at our library? From the Wayfaring Painter to Art STUDIOspace, Hawthorne is all about art. So, at the Hawthorne Branch, we are starting a STEAM orientated once-a-month program to introduce STEAM for teens and elementary-aged students in Hawthorne. Each time, we'll have differnet activities foucsing on science, technology, engineering, art, or math. Read on to learn more!

Thursday, October 10th from 3 p.m.-4 p.m.: Come tinker with Goobi magnets, MagSnaps, Tangrams and other MAKERspace toys and tools!

Thursday, November 14th from 3 p.m.-4 p.m.: Create some 3D prints with our 3Doodler pens or become a junior engineer with Strawbees and more!

Thursday, December 12th from 3 p.m.-4 p.m.: The button-maker is coming to help you create some sweet gifts this season. There may also be robots!

Thursday, January 9th from 3 p.m.-4 p.m.: This week is all about coding! Stop by to see what we've got planned!

STEAMspace is a space to explore without fear of failure, and there is no wrong or right way to create. We only ask that you treasure these materials and are welcoming to other explorers.
