Law in the Library: Disaster Recovery After the Storm October 9

The Alachua County Library District is partnering with the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association to present Law in the Library: Disaster Recovery After the Storm on Monday, Oct. 9, 6 p.m. at Headquarters Library, 401 E. University Avenue, (352) 334-3900. This informative session will cover disaster recovery issues such as construction repairs, housing, insurance claims, FEMA and other relief options. Director of Alachua County Emergency Management John Shaw; Attorney-at-Law Michael Sechrest with Warner, Sechrest and Butts, P.A., and Executive Director of Three Rivers Legal Services, Inc. Christine Larson will discuss available options and answer questions.

Other presentations and workshops include: Restoration of Civil Rights Workshops on Thursdays, October 26, 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Cone Park Branch, 2801 E. University Avenue, (352) 334-0720 and November 9, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Greenhouse Church, 2925 NW 39 Avenue, (352) 376-6992. Attorneys from Josiah T. Walls Bar Association and law students from the University of Florida Levin College of Law will provide one-on-one assistance to persons who have been convicted of a felony and are interested in applying to have their civil rights restored. If civil rights are restored an applicant will have the right to vote, sit on a jury and hold public office. Also, the attorneys will meet with people who are interested in having their records sealed or expunged.


These presentations are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. During Law in the Library presentations experienced attorneys and professionals share their knowledge on a variety of pertinent legal issues.
