Alachua County Library District recently added Lynda.com to its educational eSources to provide library card holders with free access to thousands of online learning opportunities. Lynda.com is an online learning site that hosts a constantly growing library of more than 3,000 courses with more than 130,000 instructional videos. Courses cover a variety of topics including business, design, web development, multimedia and software skills such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and open source applications. These courses are delivered by expert instructors and feature searchable transcripts that make it easy to find quick answers to questions. They are designed to help people accomplish their personal and professional goals and feature certificates of completion that can be uploaded to a LinkedIn profile.

The Library District provides its library card holders access to Lynda.com’s library of courses and instructional videos from any computer with an internet connection or users can download the Lynda.com app and access courses from their mobile devices. Users can log on and personalize their Lynda.com account to help manage course history, playlists, bookmarks and certificates of completion. Many courses also feature exercise files, so while watching a tutorial about Microsoft Excel users can follow the activity with downloadable, pre-populated Excel spreadsheet files.

Course offerings include:

  • Art, graphic design and music classes, teaching everything from 3D animation to engineering sound to the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign and more)
  • Help with computer programs, including videos on how to use Microsoft Office
  • Career building courses on public speaking, marketing to how to deal with workplace issues
