Library District is seeking volunteers for summer and fall programs

Alachua County Library District’s (ACLD) is seeking volunteers ages 12 to 17 to assist at one of its 12 branch libraries this summer and volunteers ages 15 and up to assist with fall cooking classes at Hawthorne and Cone Park Branches. Summer volunteer opportunities include assisting library staff, shelving DVDs and other tasks. Volunteer cooking assistants are needed in the fall to help setup the room with materials and food for FOODIEspace: A Taste of African Heritage cooking classes. Volunteers also may assist with food preparation and/or cook in front of a group.

Each weekly cooking class provides nutritious ways to cook and eat. Cooking materials and food are provided. Each week a different prepared dish is shared and discussed, participants then cook a new recipe, and discover the health benefits from these foods and recipes. Volunteer training is provided based on the volunteer’s level of cooking experience. Volunteers 15 years and older are preferred. Six-week classes start September 6, at Hawthorne Branch and October 16, at Cone Park Branch, both are from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.
