What is NaNoWriMo? In a word: Motivation. Who is NaNoWriMo for? Everyone.

It challenges writers to take their noveling aspirations to the next level. Throughout November, participants scream, cry, and bang their heads against walls all in the pursuit of reaching their goal of 50,000 words (that's approximately 1,667 words per day). Even with the screaming and head banging, it’s a lot of fun.

Reaching the word count in the 30 days is an awesome feeling, but the main goal of NaNoWriMo is to give participants the opportunity to write without worrying about edits and other hang-ups that tend to stall or even kill the writing process. Need proof? Take a look at this list of published NaNoWriMo novelists.

Writing may be a solo actvitiy, but NaNoWriMo is not. There's a Municipal Liaison who provides guidance and schedules meet ups with other participants. The library provides writing space as part of the Come Write In program. And NaNo HQ sends author pep talks and shares their own brand of motivation.

Be bold. Take the challenge of NaNoWriMo 2016. The writing whirlwind begins Tuesday, November 1 at 12:00 AM.
