Valentine's Day Programs 2019

Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love and affection for those special people in our lives.  It's the best time to share how much you love your significant other or best friend.  

Your library has you covered with storytimes, crafts, movies, and more to help you have the best Valentine's Day, Galentine's Day, or Palentine's Day!

Programs for children and all ages

Mandala Rock ArtWaldo Branch, February 2, 2:00 pm.  Ages 5+               

     Bring harmony and peace to the ones you love for Valentine's Day.  Elegant yet easy.  Artist Paula Pope will   show you how to paint a mandala on a rock. All supplies included.  Program will be held at the Yerkes Center next door to the Waldo Library.  Registration required.  For questions or to register call 352-468-3298.

S.T.E.A.M. Valentine's Day SoftiesAlachua Branch, February 7, 4:00 pm. Ages 10-18

     Sew your own easy to make softie.  All materials will be supplied.  Parents and caregivers are encouraged to join us for a more rewarding experience.  

Palentine's DayMicanopy Branch, February 13, 3:30 pm.  Ages 5-11                                                 

Valentine's Day is for lovey-dovey couples, but what about your friends? How do you show your besties, bffs, and bros that you care about them? Celebrate PALentine's Day on February 13th!  We'll celebrate by crafting and decorating treats.  

Valentine's Day Storytime and Craft. Headquarters Branch, February 14, 3:00 pm.  Ages 1-11

     Join us for a special Valentine's Day storytime as we celebrate love and kindness. Afterwards, make some cards to share with family and friends

Valentine's Sock Hop!  Newberry Branch, February 14, 3:30 pm.  All ages

     Kick off your Blue Suede Shoes and cut a rug at the Sock Hop! Earth Angels, Little Runaways, and Leaders of the Pack, come learn the Lindy Hop! Valentine's colors or fifties-style outfits encouraged.

Valentine Storytime and Craft. Hawthrone Branch, February 14, 10:30 am. Ages 0-5

     Interactive storytime with literature-based fingerplays, art, music and puppetry for people identifying with age 5 and under and their caretakers.

SEWINGSpace Hidden Heart Pencil CaseMillhopper Branch, February 4, 4:00 pm.

     Learn basic hand sewing techniques and make a Hidden Heart Pencil Case for Valentine's Day  

Duct Tape Rose Pens. Tower Road Branch, February 14, 4:00 pm.

     Celebrate Valentine's Day by making a rose pen out of Duct Tape. Supplies will be provided.

Aromatherapy Workshop with Gilda Library Partnership Branch, February 5, 1:00 pm.

Create a special aromatherapy gift for yourself or your special valentine with Gilda of MSB Aromatherapy, LLC.

Book Speed Dating. Millhopper Branch, February 6, 4:30 pm.

     Find your perfect (book) match for Valentine's Day!  Spend 2 minutes on each date and write down your thoughts on whether the book will be a great read, okay read, or just not interested. At the end of the rotation you will rate the dates and submit your choices for matching up.

Wayfaring Painter Presents: Romance and Roses  Headquarters Branch, February 6, 6:30 pm. 

     Kristyn from Wayfaring Painter shows how to draw the romantic rose.

Valentine Crafts for Grownups, Millhopper Branch, February 9, 10:00 am.

     Come create something lovely for yourself or someone special. Make a string art heart, heart-shaped earrings in various designs or decorate a frame with paint, washi tape, sequins, stickers, buttons, or fabric flowers. Make one or one of each! All materials provided.

Scentsational Valentine's Day Hawthorne Branch, February 9,  2:00 pm.

     Create a special aromatherapy gift for yourself or your special valentine with Gilda of MSB Aromatherapy, LLC. We’ll be discovering some important facts about essential oils and aromatherapy while creating our own special scented valentine favor.  All supplies provided. Space is limited to 15 so this is a ticketed event: 30 minutes before the workshop tickets will be available for pickup, first come first served.

DIY Glassware & Ceramic PaintingHeadquarters Branch, February 11, 3:30 pm.  Ages 12+

     Join us for a classic movie and take a trip down memory lane. Just in time for Valentine's Day, today's film is, "Sabrina" (1954) with Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn.

     Treat yourself to the love you deserve. Life coach and professional organizer Angela Betancourt of Simply Angela will teach you 10 ways to make your life better and to appreciate it more.

Between the Covers Romance Book Club. Headquarters Branch, February 19, 6:00 pm.

     Continue the romance all year by joining the new romance book club.  The book for February is The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang. Copies are available at the Reference Desk at Headquarters.
