Just in time for Earth Day and the upcoming citywide ban on single-use bags in Gainesville, your library will be presenting programs on different ways to upcycle old t-shirts into new reusable bags. There will be no-sew and sewn designs you can make. We will be providing the patterns, sewing machines, and old t-shirts. HOWEVER if you have a favorite shirt you would like to upcycle, be sure to bring it.
There are several different ways the t-shirts can be upcycled--there are carry bags, drawstring backpacks, and vegetable bags. You aren't limited to using t-shirts for upcycled bags, though. It's surpirsing what you can repurpose for a shopping bag. Future classes might focus on reusing old, clean pet food bags.
The first program schedule is as follows:
Sunday, April 7 1:00-3:00 pm in Meeting Room B
Sunday, April 14 12:00-5:00 pm DEPOT PARK EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
Monday, April 15 4:00-5:00 pm Vegetable Bags in Meeting Room B
Sunday, April 28 1:00-4:00 pm in the Teen Space
