Active Parenting Now

Active Parenting Now offers a proven approach to raising your children ages 5-12 to be responsible, creative, and prepared to meet the challenges of the teen years. The six sessions combine video and discussion with practical advice from the author, Michael Popkin, Ph.D. In each session, you will learn about:

  • What your children need to succeed
  • Handling problems together
  • Building a relationship with your child based on cooperation and respect
  • Enhancing your child’s sense of responsibility
  • Understanding why children misbehave
  • Communicating effectively with your child
  • Stimulating your child’s independence
  • Understanding the power of encouragement

Active Parenting Now will be held once a week for six weeks. Classes at the Millhopper Branch are on Tuesdays, January 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st and Thursdays, February 9th and 16th, from 6-8pm. Classes at the Tower Road Branch are on Saturdays, January 14th, 21st, and 28th and February 4th, 11th, and 18th from 1-3pm. Each session is two hours in length with time for breaks and snacks. The sessions are fun and supportive. There will be lively activities, games and time to just be with other parents like you.
