Restoration of Civil Rights Workshops

The Alachua County Library District is partnering with the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association to present Restoration of Civil Rights Workshops on Thursdays, September 21, 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Library Partnership, 1130 NE 16 Avenue, (352) 334-0165, and on October 26, 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Cone Park Branch, 2801 E. University Avenue, (352) 334-0720 and November 9, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Greenhouse Church, 2925 NW 39 Avenue, (352) 376-6992. Attorneys from Josiah T. Walls Bar Association and law students from the University of Florida Levin College of Law will provide one-on-one assistance to persons who have been convicted of a felony and are interested in applying to have their civil rights restored. If civil rights are restored an applicant will have the right to vote, sit on a jury and hold public office. Also, the attorneys will meet with people who are interested in having their records sealed or expunged.

Other presentations and workshops include: Law in the Library: Get the Most Out of Medicaid on Monday, Sept. 18, 6 p.m. at the Headquarters Library, 401 E. University Avenue. Attorney Nancy Wright will cover what Medicaid offers, who is eligible, how to request services and where to complain if you disagree with a decision or can’t figure out how to navigate the system. Wright is a Gainesville attorney whose practice focuses primarily on Medicaid services for persons with disabilities and the elderly. 

These presentations are free and open to the public. Registration is not required. During Law in the Library presentations experienced attorneys and professionals share their knowledge on a variety of pertinent legal issues.
