The Force is strong at these library events

You don’t have to travel to a galaxy far, far away to celebrate the release of the new Star Wars film, “The Rise of Skywalker.” The Alachua County Library District has events for all ages and droids.

Don’t forget to re-watch the series before the movie hits theatres. The Alachua County Library District has all the movies on DVD. Place a hold today.

Enjoy books about the making of the Star Wars series and the universe including Star Wars Year by Year: A Visual History, The Star Wars Cook Book: Wookie Cookies and Galactic Recipes and Star Wars Galactic Maps: An Illustrated Atlas of the Star Wars Universe.

Star Wars Release Party

  • Wednesday, Dec. 11, 3 p.m., Tower Road Branch, ages 5-18

Assemble your Rebel Alliance for an afternoon of crafts and a photobooth. Come dressed as your favorite character from the universe. Make a keychain lightsaber craft, compete in the Death Star x-wing toss, take aim at Stormtrooper target practice, and show your Star Wars spirit with our button maker.

Feel the Force: Star Wars Party

  • Saturday, Dec.14,  2 p.m., Micanopy Branch, ages 5-18

Did “The Force Awakens” inspire you to get your own BB-8? The cute droid may be hard to come by, but at this event we’ll have a BB-8 you can play with as well as other robots built by the company Sphero, a robotics company based in Colorado. Star Wars Holiday Special

  • Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, 3 p.m., Headquarters Branch, all ages

Gather with fellow Jedis and droids eight days before the release of “Star Wars IX: Rise of Skywalker” as you chat about the series, play games and work on a craft. Dress up as your favorite character from the universe.
