2016 Battle of the Books Results

We held our 7th Annual Battle of the Books competition!

Teens district-wide joined our teams, attended regular meetings throughout the summer, read the 3 selected books (Nil by Lynne Matson, We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and Avalon by Mindee Arnett) and competed in our Battle of the Books event.

This year’s “Battle” took place on Saturday, July 30th at 1 PM.  In addition to the excitement from the challenging competition, this year there was a special guest...author of the Nil series, Lynne Matson!  She spoke to over 100 participants and other guests before the competition as well as during breaks.  She also posed for photos, signed books and even t-shirts!

Here are the results:

7th Place:  Library Partnership (220 points)

6th Place: Micanopy (230)

5th Place (tie):  Hawthorne and Millhopper (235)

4th Place:  Alachua (245)

3rd Place:  Tower (250)

2nd Place (tie):  Newberry and Cone Park/Headquarters (285)

1st Place:  High Springs (300)

All the teams did a fantastic job of answering the majority of the questions correctly.  However, the High Springs Library Branch is this year's winner, not missing a question!

Thanks to all participants, their families, the judges and coaches for making this event such a success!

A special thanks also to Baker Baker; El Toro in Alachua; Beef O’Brady’s Millhopper; and McAlister’s off Newberry Road for providing refreshments at this event!
