Spring Teen Art Show Wrap-up

The Spring Teen Art Show for ages 16-19 was Saturday, April 6th. Forty pieces were submitted from teens around Alachua County. Some exceptional pieces of art including paintings, pencil drawings, photography, short videos, mixed media, and more were submitted. Artists and their families attended a reception and award ceremony Saturday afternoon at the Headquarters Library. All of the artwork was put on display on Saturday and Sunday and patrons could even vote for their favorite.

Five judges from around the community, including art coordinators from the Harn Museum of Art and local artists and members of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association came together to pick the top 12 pieces.

Susan Cooksey of The Harn said "This exhibition shows that artists are looking closely at themselves introspectively, and at the world around them, casting it in a different light. Their ways of looking and rendering are new, refreshing and hopeful!"

Betania Bright, a member of GFAA said "As a judge I search for good display of technique first, good use of color, and artistic message. I hope you all continue studying arts, even if some were not prized here today. Art is a field that takes many, many years to master. If you are lucky in this life you will make one genius pieces, if you are really lucky maybe two. So always approach art with humility and a curious sense of learning."
