Spring Teen Art Show

Teen Art Show winners with two paintings of women

To all the artists who submitted artwork, their support teams, and the judges, thank you for making this the best Spring Teen Art Show ever. A total of 25 artists submitted 56 pieces of art, making this the largest show for ages 16-19 ever.

Though it was extremely difficult, three judges from around the community came together to award 12 pieces for excellence, skill, and passion. One of the judges, a local artist, had this to say about her experience "I can't believe the talent I'm witnessing, you are all extremely gifted. Keep exploring art because this creative outlet will help make you a better and happier person."

There are a total of 13 awards, which consist of seven overall awards, five category awards, and one favorited piece. The categories change each show depending on what type of artwork we receive. For instance, we wouldn’t give a Best Photography award if we only received 2 photos. This is done with the goal to give each piece multiple opportunities to be awarded by the judges.

Normally we allow patrons who come to see the artwork in person the opportunity to vote for their favorite. However, since we are unable to hold a show in person, instead of a Crowd Favorite we decided to award a Staff Favorite. All Alachua County Library District employees were given the opportunity to cast a vote for their favorite piece. Several employees commented on how difficult their decision was because of the level of talent so many of the pieces had.

To view all the artwork check out the slideshow at the bottom of the page, or visit the library's Flickr page.
