eSources for Finding a New Hobby

There's times when we all feel a little at wit's end, and like our usual activities are a little old, and we would love to try something new. Below is a list of eSources (online resources) available from the library to help you pursue a new hobby. All of these resources are available for free with a library card.

Creativebug

Are you crafty? Do you want to be crafty? Creativebug should be your first stop, then. Full of tutorials for all sort of arts and crafts, as well as longer-format classes and lessons on more in-depth topics, Creativebug is the perfect place for a true beginner to learn a new craft or for more experienced crafters to sharpen their skills. Crafts on Creativebug include everything from card-making to print-making to painting and more. If you're working from home with limited art supplies, try searching for things like "felt" or "markers" or "paper" in the Creativebug search bar--Creativebug will give you suggestions for crafts that you can make with the materials you have.

Lynda

Lynda is an eSource for people who are creative or technically minded, and geared towards helping you learn skills that aren't typically taught in the classroom. Lynda courses include: Ukulele lessons, How To for numerous coding languages, website construction, photography, Photoshop, video editing, music editing, and the basics of graphic design, among many, many more. If there's anyone in your life who struggles with using a computer, Lynda also has courses geared towards teaching computer skills. Lynda's range of lessons is especially wide, so if there's something you've always wanted to learn, it doesn't hurt to check here, first, to see if there's anything for you.

Transparent Language

If the Duolingo owl just isn't cutting it, Transparent Language can be a great resource for learning languages. Offering a wide variety of languages as well as a few dialects, Transparent can be a great place to learn.

ChiltonLibrary

Do you have, or have access to, a car? Then you know cars are often expensive and, if you haven't been taught how to maintain a car, it can be hard to know where to start, especially for your unique car. Chilton Library is a library of car service manuals. If you're looking to learn more about how cars truly operate and how to fix them yourself, this is your resource.
