Basic Literacy Tutor
Provides basic literacy intervention/instruction to adult struggling readers in the Library’s Literacy Program.
- Provides basic literacy instruction/intervention to adult learners.
- Maintains a regular twice-weekly tutoring schedule.
- Participates in professional development and/or NOW! Foundations booster sessions as needed.
- Works one-on-one or in a small group setting.
- Submits required monthly reports on time.
Must be a native English speaker or possess native-like fluency without impediment. Must successfully complete NOW! Foundations training series. Demonstrates good verbal communication and organizational skills. Demonstrates patience and compassion for challenged populations. Adherence to strict privacy practices.
Ability to meet twice weekly with an adult learner on non-consecutive days for approximately one hour each meeting.
ACLD Literacy Coordinator
English Language Tutor
Provides English language instruction and conversation practice to adult English language learners (ELLs) in the Library’s Literacy Program.
- Facilitates English learning and practice opportunities for adult learners.
- Maintains a regular tutoring schedule.
- Participates in professional development as needed.
- Works one-on-one or provides small group instruction.
- Submits required monthly reports on time.
Must be a native English speaker or possess native-like fluency without impediment. Demonstrates good verbal communication and organizational skills. Demonstrates patience and compassion for challenged populations. Adherence to strict privacy practices.
Ability to meet weekly with an adult learner for approximately one hour each meeting.
ACLD Literacy Coordinator
Program Assistant
Assists library staff in preparing and presenting programs for children, teens, adults, and seniors. May assist with identifying community needs for programs. Helps publicize programs, collects photo release forms and refers questions to library staff.
May provide help with various art projects.
- Prepares materials to be used in library programs.
- Assists with program setup and take-down. Notes attendance for statistics.
- Greets and welcomes attendees at library programs.
Is reliable. Ability to work with all ages of the general public. Able to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to serve at a variety of times as needed.
Volunteer Liaison or other designated staff.
Shell Elementary Liaison Volunteer
Facilitates transmission of materials to and from Shell Elementary School, enabling the library to contribute information about programming and the library in general. Delivers craft projects, Box Tops, book marks, etc. mainly to the Head Start Program as needed. [County truck mail does not run every day to every location.]
- Deliver materials to and from Shell Elementary School.
- Share information of interest to one or both locations.
Reliability. Familiarity with Shell Elementary faculty and staff.
Ability to assist as needed. No set schedule.
Volunteer liaison or other designated staff.
Teen Volunteer
Assists library staff in preparing programs for children, teens and adults. Sorts and shelves library materials. Ensures collections are straight and orderly. Checks shelves for accurate placement of library materials. Searches for library material from daily pick lists. Assists staff in creating themed displays of library material. Performs other miscellaneous duties as needed such as checking the book drop, preparing receipt printer tape, processing donated magazines for giveaway and helping with the organization of materials for Shell Elementary Head Start.
In addition to other teen volunteer duties, an occasional teen who serves as a Circulation Assistant will: inspect materials for damages, cleaning if needed and check in. Any damaged or partially missing materials should be reported to library staff. AV materials should be checked for correct matching item/barcode before checking in.
- Shelves, straightens, and organizes library materials
- Retrieves items on daily hold lists
- Prepares materials to be used in library programs
- Assists with program setup and take-down
- Assists in programs with craft or activity station
Able to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work accurately with numbers and letters. Attention to detail.
Ability to serve a minimum of 1 hour per week. Available to serve during Waldo Branch's open hours.
