John Searles, author of Help for the Haunted, Boy Still Missing, and Strange But True, will be visiting the
Millhopper Branch on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2pm. He will speak about his three books, sign books, and have a Q&A session. John was Time's "Person to Watch" after the publication of his first book, Boy Still Missing while balancing novel writing with a magazine career. His second novel, Strange But True, was named the Best Book of 2004 on Salon.com. His third novel, Help for the Haunted, won the American Library Association Alex Award, an award for books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults ages 12 through 18; as well as listed as Amazon Top 10 Mystery and Suspense novel, of 2013.
Searles was born and raised in New England where he as a teen would join his trucker father on road trips where he read Stephen King and John Irving novels. He worked at a factory and a telemarketer at night to save money to be the first person in his famiy to go to college. He later got a job at Cosmopolitan where he served as the books editor magazine and was then elevated to the Editoral Brand Editor.
