The Art Lab @ HAW: Watercolor Painting 

August 1 | 3:00-4:00 p.m. | Hawthorne Branch

You asked for it, and here it is! Judy Harris is back with her fabulously popular and engaging watercolor class. No previous drawing or painting experience is required. Class is limited to 12 students - you can register online through our Events page or you can call the Hawthorne Branch at 352-481-1920 to reserve your spot. We supply all the materials - all you need to bring is your creativity! Teens and adults are welcome.

Teen Gaming

August 3 | 3:00-4:00 p.m. | Archer Branch

Come to the Archer Branch Library during Summer at the Library and play games on our Xbox One console! Play a variety of available games and compete with your friends! Attendance is limited to the first 8 people. If there are more than 8 teens interested in one session, a rotating system will be implemented in order to ensure everyone is allowed to play at some point during the program.

Drawing Club

August 3 | 3:15-4:00 p.m. | Newberry Branch

Come hang out and draw with new friends. Get sketchy and practice your drawing skills at the Newberry Branch Library. All ages 5+ welcome.

Pathways to Programming - Ozobots

August 4 | 3:00-5:30 p.m. | Millhopper Branch

Join us for an introduction to computational thinking with Ozobots and color codes, short sequences of color drawn with markers on paper that tell Ozobots what to do. After a brief demonstration, participants will be supplied with Ozobots, coding templates, and instructions. They will then create their own pattern codes to control the Ozobots. 

 

  • Registration is required at least 12 hours before the event to guarantee admission.
  • Attendance is limited, so please include all attendees in your group as individual attendees or guests.
  • Check-in will start 15 minutes prior to the program’s start time.

Join our friends from the City of Gainesville Public Works Department as they talk about insect identification, habitats, and mosquito control methods. Look at live bugs under a microscope while learning how to stay bite-free!

Virtual Teen Book Discussion program where participants have a friendly discussion to share their favorite book they read this month via camera, audio, or chatbox. This group will be different from the teen book club in that each participant will choose his or her own book to read each month and tell us about it as a jumping-off point for conversation and discussion. Join us for our teen Anime Club meeting in the Cone Park meeting room! We will be watching anime movies and shows, encouraging the reading and discussion of manga, and deepening their appreciation of another culture. There will be an emphasis put on reading manga to go along with the shows and movies we love, learning the rules of games related to anime, and getting a better understanding of Japanese culture and language.

Teen/Tween Book Club

The Teen/Tween Book Club at the Headquarters Branch of the Alachua County Library District has been around for over three years and has now moved to GoodReads!  This virtual platform allows us to safely hear from all of our members (past and present) and to add new members from all around the district! We love reading the best new YA fantasy and sci-fi, but also enjoy slice-of-life novels and great bios. We'll even throw in the occasional graphic novel for fun! Check out what we're reading and join us for some scintillating conversation on the last Wednesday of each month.
