Citizen of the Year ceremony recognizes students

Alachua County fifth grade students were honored at the annual Citizen of Year Ceremony on May 9, at 11 a.m. at the Alachua County Library District Headquarters. Students were selected from the Citizen of the Month program that recognizes a fifth grader at each of Alachua County's public elementary schools each month for their achievements both in the classroom and within their communities.

program which included a welcome from Kiwanis Club President Pat Bartlett, words of encouragement from Alachua County Library District Library Director Shaney T. Livingston, keynote speaker City of Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe and awards presentation by Jennifer Taylor, Supervisor Student Support Services Alachua County Public Schools.

Awards include a certificate, Best Buy gift card and a free Gator Domino's pizza. Each Citizen of the Year shook hands with all the speakers then received his or her award. Photos were taken of the students that the Library District will make into keepsake bookmarks and pictures for the students.
