The monster at the end of this book

“Hello, everybodee!   What did that say?  On the first page, what did that say? Did that say there will be a Monster at the end of this book???  It did? Oh, I am so scared of Monsters!!! Shhhhh. Listen, I have an idea. If you do not turn any pages, we will never get to the end of this book. And that is good, because there is a Monster at the end of this book.  So please do not turn the page.”

As we turn each page, Grover implores us to stop.  He ties the pages together; he nails the pages down; and he builds a heavy, thick, solid brick wall. Grover begs, but nothing will stop us from turning the page. And then we turn to the last page at the end of the book and ……!

This Sesame Street book, written by Jon Stone and illustrated by Michael Smollin, has always been one of my favorite children’s book.  Every child I know who has ever had this book read to them also becomes a favorite to read over and over.  This edition is happily reissued in hardback and a larger size to withstand many readings.  So grab this book, and your child, or grandchild, and sit down and have a fun, “scary” time with lovable, furry old Grover.
