2020 Mock Caldecott Awards

Alachua County Library District, partnering with the University of Florida’s Center for Children's Literature and Culture and UF English, will host the 2020 Mock Caldecott Awards at Headquarters Library on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1:30 p.m. Picture book lovers of all ages are invited to review 25 of the best picture books of the last year and vote for their top picks for the Caldecott Award. This is an opportunity for Alachua County readers to learn more about what makes a book a Caldecott Medal winner and choose their favorites before the 2020 Youth Media Awards on Jan. 27 at American Library Association’s Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia, PA.

Each year the American Library Association (ALA) honors books, videos and other outstanding materials for children and teens. Recognized worldwide for the high quality they represent, the ALA Youth Media Awards, including the prestigious Newbery, Caldecott, Printz and Coretta Scott King Book Awards, guide parents, educators, librarians and others in selecting the best materials for youth. This is a chance to learn more about the quality, award-winning materials available for children at your local library and how to make excellent reading choices for children.
