Born on September 13, 1916, Roald Dahl grew up in Wales before going on to serve as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force during World War II. After also serving as an intelligence officer, Dahl then went on to become a prominent author in the 1940s. He eventually became one of the world's bestelling authors and has been referred to as "one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century". And for a little fun fact, Dahl used his own memories of his time in boarding school, where students were invited to sample chocolate bars, as inspiration when writing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!
Dahl wrote novels, short stories, and even his own special dictionary for all ages. His works can be found in our catalog in both print and digital format, but I've also listed some of his well-known favorites below.
