The History of Talk Like Shakespeare Day:
Many believe that the way Shakespeare's characters spoke was how most did in his day. It wasn't; he romanticizes the speech to create a "stage voice." Talk Like Shakespeare is the day where we are encouraged to speak as the Bard would and enjoy some of his treasure works.
How to join in the fun:
Crack open one of his books for inspiration!
Macbeth- "By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes. Open, locks, Whoever knocks!"
The Tempest- "Hell is empty, and all the devils are here."
Twelfth Night- "If music be the food of love, play on."
Romeo and Juliet- "Good night, good night! parting is such sweet sorrow, That I shall say good night till it be morrow."
Or even simpler, substitute thou, thee and ye for you and they.
