The Sin Eater's Daughter by Melinda Salisbury

This book tells the story of sixteen year old Twylla. The first eleven years of her life she trained to take over her mother's place as Sin Eater, but then she is told she is a goddess embodied. Suddenly she is wisked away to the castle and betrothed to the prince. Not is all that it seems though. The author does an amazing job of surprising the reader in some unique and terrifying ways. This book threw me for a loop, more than once. With the amount of books I've read, especially fantasy ones, that is hard to do.

Aside from the story itself I found the world and culture that the author created very interesting. Sin Eating? I've never come across that before. Be warned though becuase this book is quite a cliffhanger, make sure you have the next book in the series, The Sleeping Prince, ready and waiting.
