Homebound Service

Homebound (HMBD) Service is available to patrons who are physically unable, due to some form of long-term disability or illness, to visit the library. To qualify for this service, you must be a resident of Alachua County and have a valid Alachua County library card. Residents without a library card who require Homebound Service can apply for a card when registering for HMBD.

Guidelines
  • Must be a resident of Alachua County
  • Materials check-out for 6 weeks*
  • Requests can only be made for the person registered for HMBD, not for friends or family
  • Materials checked out at a branch or bookmobile cannot be returned via the HMBD green mailer

*Interlibrary Loans are due by the date indicated by the lending library

Request Materials via Homebound Service

You must be registered for Homebound Service before you can request materials.

Homebound Requests May Include
  • Books and Audiobooks
  • DVDs
  • Music CDs
  • Magazines
  • Interlibrary Loans

Digital materials, such as eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines, can be checked out with an internet connected device.

To request materials through the mail, you will need to fill out the Delivery Request Form. When ordering materials through the mail, do not include your physical library card.

Apply for Homebound Service

You can also start the application process online further below. Please be aware that completion of this online form does not register you for Homebound Service.

Once the library has received your request to apply for Homebound Service, you will be mailed a Registration Packet that will include the following:

  • Welcome Letter
  • Registration Form
  • Delivery Request Form
  • Instructions for Returning Materials
  • Self-addressed envelope to the library

The Registration Form will ask for your name, mailing address, and signature, attesting to your inability to utilize a library building or bookmobile. You will also be asked about your reading tastes and what types of materials you are interested in. Once you have completed your Registration Form and Delivery Request Form, please mail these back to us in the self-addressed envelope included in the packet. Once the library has received your completed forms, your Delivery Request Form will be processed and the materials will be mailed to you.

Elderly and/or homebound residents of Alachua County can receive mail delivery of library materials.  Please provide the information below to start the application process; once we've received this information we will send you some mail to finalize the application.
