Celebrating 25 years of Pokémon!

Pokémon has touched the lives of people of all ages. Whether you’ve been a fan since the franchise released in the 90s, or only become a part-time trainer when you’re trying to defend your team’s gym in Pokémon Go during your morning walks, Pokémon has been widely successful in bringing joy and entertainment to people around the world.

The Pokémon franchise began with the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan on the Game Boy handheld console in 1996. Following the major success of these games, Pokémon became a widely known and well-received form of entertainment. In addition to the ongoing creation of new Pokémon games, the franchise has found success in the development of various animated television series, movies, music and live events, manga, trading cards, clothing, and other forms of merchandise.

Although the official anniversary date is in February, the celebration of the Pokémon franchise is set to be a year-long event, so you can jump into the fun at any time! We have a variety of Pokémon library materials in our collection for you to enjoy.
